Every country in every part of the world has their own idioms, and that includes Costa Rica. The first thing that I learned is Pura Vida, which is basically the mantra of the country. Pura Vida means Pure Life, which is the way that the Costa Ricans like to live, it's best explained as a synonym of Hakuna Matata. Everything is Pura Vida here, and they say it in response to everything!
Mae is their version of Dude
Tico/Tica refers to a Costa Rican man or woman
Chunche is their version of a thingamajig or to us Irish, a yoke
Con Mucho Gusto is their De Nada or Thank You or Nice To Meet You
Ojo! means watch out!
Pinche means stingy or cheap, even though it means fucking in Mexico, like a pinche cabrona (a fucking idiot).
A soda is a small restaurant that is usually family owned. More like a cafe.
